CELEBRATE AMERICA with the AHS Select Choir

The AHS Select Choir was one of 12 area high school groups picked to perform with the nationally acclaimed composer Tim Janis as part of his "Celebrate America" music special. Tim's goal was to go across the United States and give high school choirs the chance to perform inspirational music that spotlights the youth of this country in a positive light.

Our performance will air on WMHT on March 20th at 5:00pm.

The second part of this is the chance for the AHS Choir to get $500.00 gift certificate from the Hal Leonard Music Publishing company.

This is where we need YOUR help. We need 50 people to join or renew their membership with WMHT at the $40.00 level. When you do this, please mention Amsterdam High School Chorus and we get the necessary credit towards the $500.00. This offer ends on March 20th.

The Choir would greatly appreciate anything you can do to help us. Please pass the word along to friends and family who make WMHT a part of their television viewing.

AMSTERDAM SCHOOL DISTRICT RECEIVES TOP MARKS FROM

STATE COMPTROLLER

The Greater Amsterdam School District is one of five districts that received a positive audit report by the Office of the State Comptroller in 2009.

Overall, auditors found the system of controls in Amsterdam schools to be well designed and operating effectively.  This includes having both effective managerial oversight and a proper segregation of duties. Auditors found that district officials had implemented adequate procedures and controls to decrease the risk of error and irregularities associated with the payroll process and conflicting duties.  Within the purchasing and procurement areas, auditors found that the district was using their resources effectively and complying with applicable laws and regulations.

According to Superintendent Thomas Perillo, “The district can be very proud of the results of this large-scale, thorough review by the State. In all areas, including purchasing and payroll, we passed their tests with flying colors. This validates our system of fiscal controls and how we manage taxpayer dollars. The community now has objective and independent substantiation that we use their money wisely.”

State auditors examined all 733 school districts and BOCES in New York State over a five year period.  They spent two months in the Greater Amsterdam School District last winter.
