Overview of School

Named for the famous scientist whose investigations led to treatments for cancer more than 100 years ago, students here learn how to combine their powers of observation with practical problem-solving skills. With an emphasis on engineering – which is the use of knowledge to solve problems – and communications skills, students at the Marie Curie Institute learn to be critical thinkers and real-world problem solvers who can effectively communicate their thoughts and ideas.

Students get hands-on technology and communications training in the school’s state-of-the-art Macintosh computer lab and through the school TV station and newspaper.

Visual arts, band and music are offered during the school day. Invention Convention, a robotics club, a garden club and the Advantage After School program provide students the opportunity to apply their knowledge in real-world settings outside the school day.

History of School

Marie Curie Eastside Elementary School was built in 1975 as an open-concept school. The original mascot was the Polish Falcon in honor of the school’s namesake, Marie Curie.

During the summer of 1996, the building was completely renovated, replacing the open-concept structure with more traditional classrooms. At that time, the students chose a new school mascot, the Marie Curie Wildcat.

In 2007, our school became the district’s second magnet school – Marie Curie Institute of Engineering & Communications.
