Universal Pre-K and Kindergarten Registration 2025-2026 School Year
Eligibility - Who Can Register?
Kindergarten: Children must be 5 years old on or before December 1, 2025, and reside in the Greater Amsterdam School district.
3-Year-Old UPK: Children must be 3 years old on or before December 1, 2025, and reside in the Greater Amsterdam School district.
4-Year-Old UPK: Children must be 4 years old on or before December 1, 2025, and reside in the Greater Amsterdam School district.

Paper Forms:
Pick up a registration packet at the District Office located at 140 Saratoga Ave. (use Miami Ave. parking lot).
Completed packets can be dropped off in the locked drop box outside the District Office.
Note: Walk-in registrations are not available at this time.
Universal Pre-K Program Information
Greater Amsterdam School Buildings:
Offers 4-year-old UPK program only
Transportation is NOT provided.
Whispering Pines:
Offers both 3-year-old and 4-year-old UPK programs.
Registration must be completed through the Greater Amsterdam School District
Transportation is NOT provided.
Head Start Pre-K:
Offers both 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds.
Must register directly with Head Start

Important Deadlines
UPK Lottery Registration:
March 17 – May 1, 2025
Lottery results will be announced in June 2025.
Registrations received after May 1, will be placed on a waiting list or enrolled in a school based on availability.
Kindergarten Registration:
Begins March 17, 2025
Kindergarten registration is ongoing (no lottery).
For Current UPK Students
Current 4-Year-Old UPK Students entering Kindergarten for the 25/26 School Year:
No need to re-register for Kindergarten. Verification forms will be sent home with your child in March/April. These forms are required to be updated and returned to your child’s school.
Proof of residence is required for address changes. School placement letters will be mailed in June.
Current 3-Year-Old Whispering Pines Students entering the 4-Year-Old Program:
Verification forms must be returned by the deadline to enter the lottery for the 4-Year-Old UPK program. Verification forms will be sent home with your child in March/April. These forms are required to be updated and returned to your child’s school. If you do not receive a verification form, please contact the Amsterdam School District registration office or your child’s school.
Proof of residence is required for address changes.

Registering Students Using Paper Forms
How to Obtain a Registration Packet:
Pick Up: Visit the District Office to collect a packet in person.
By Mail: Request a packet by emailing registration@gasd.org or calling the Registration Office.
Online: Download and print the packet from our website at www.gasd.org. Navigate to the "Student Registration" section and select the "Downloadable Forms" tab.
District Office Location:
The District Office is located at 140 Saratoga Ave, behind the high school. Use the District Office parking lot on Miami Ave. Follow the sidewalk near the rock climbing wall; the office entrance is the first door on the right.
Drop-Off & Pick-Up Options Outside the Office:
Locked Drop-Off Box: Submit completed registration packets along with copies of required documents.
Supply Box: Contains blank registration packets available for pick-up at any time. Choose the appropriate packet for your student.
Important Notes:
Walk-in registrations are currently not available.
Follow all instructions provided on the cover page of the registration packet.
Registering Students Online
Step 1: Access the Online Registration Portal
Visit www.gasd.org and navigate to the "Student Services" section. Select "Student Registration" and follow the instructions for online registration. You can also access the portal directly here: Online Registration Portal.
Step 2: Gather Required Documents
To register online, ensure you have the following:
A valid email address for the custodial parent/guardian.
Access to a printer for additional forms.
Copies of the required proofs and documents are listed below:
Required Documents:
Proof of Residence (2 proofs, dated within 30 days):
Examples: Utility bill, notarized lease, driver’s license with the current address, government agency letter, etc.Temporary Residence: Complete the STAC/Housing Questionnaire Form. This must be reviewed by a School Official Liaison. Proof of permanent residence will be required later.
Student's Birth Certificate (or Passport, Government ID, or Visa).
Custodial Parent/Guardian’s ID.
Updated Immunization Records (fax to 518-842-0012 if needed).
Legal Documents (if applicable): Custody orders, foster care letters, DSS/CPS/DFA custody letters, or orders of protection signed by a judge.
Note: Do not send Social Security cards.
Step 3: Complete and Submit Additional Forms
Some forms are not included in the online registration process and must be submitted separately. Download these forms from the "Additional Online Registration Forms" section:
Home Language Questionnaire
Health Registration Form
Release of Records Form (write "N/A" if the student has not attended a previous school).
Submit Documents in One of the Following Ways:
By Email: Send scanned or legible photos of all documents to . Include the student’s name and grade in the email. Multiple emails may delay processing.
By Drop-Off: Place copies of all forms and documents in the locked black box labeled “Registration Drop Box” outside the District Office doors.
Step 4: Confirm Submission
If you used the drop-off option, email to notify the office of your submission.
Once all documents are received, you will receive a confirmation email. If any documents are missing, the registration office will contact you for follow-up.
Additional Information
Deadlines:
Online registrations will expire after 14 days if all required documents are not submitted. A new registration must be started if the deadline is missed.
Processing Times:
Summer Registrations: Allow 5–7 business days before following up.
During the School Year: Contact the office 1–2 business days after submission if you haven’t received a response.
