The Greater Amsterdam School District welcomes John Batch Jr. as the new Assistant Principal at Lynch Literacy Academy. He was appointed by the Board of Education in July and will begin September 1.
He joins the LLA administrative team that includes Principal Bryan Wood and fellow Assistant Principals Charles Myers and Kaitlyn Spencer.
Batch comes to GASD from the Albany City School District where he taught middle and high school social studies since 2015. He was a Social Studies Building Curriculum Team Leader in Albany, curriculum writer and teacher-mentor for new staff. He is a two-time Teacher of the Year award winner both in Albany and at his former school district in Yuma, Arizona, where he also taught middle school social studies.
While in Albany, Batch created and worked to implement a School Community Action Plan (SCAP) to connect middle school students and parents to resources in the community and help close the achievement gap. He also created and facilitated a student Equity Club there.
Batch recently earned a certification in School Building Leadership from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. He earned a master’s degree in the Science of Teaching (MST) in Adolescent Education: grades 7-12 from the State University at Plattsburgh and a bachelor’s degree in History from Skidmore College.
