The Greater Amsterdam School District welcomes Molly L. Schaefer as the new Assistant Principal at Amsterdam High School. She was appointed by the Board of Education in July and will begin September 1.
She will join the AHS administrative team that includes Principal Anne Marie Giles and fellow Assistant Principals John Davey, Mike Gennett and Michael Zabinski.
Schaefer comes to GASD from the Schenectady City School District where she’s worked since 2009, most recently as Dean of Student Engagement at Schenectady High School. Prior to that she was a teacher of 8th grade Social Inquiry at Mont Pleasant Middle School and a grade 7-12 French teacher in the district. She has been a teen/parent advocate and has served on numerous district/school committees to support youth, women empowerment, and anti-racism. In 2019 she was voted “Best of the Best Teachers” by the Daily Gazette newspaper.
Schaefer was certified in Educational Leadership from the School of Professional Development - State University of New York at Stony Brook. She earned a master’s degree in Teaching English to Students of Other Languages from the State University of New York College at Albany, and a bachelor’s degree in Adolescence Education and French with Honors from the State University of New York College at Oneonta. Several other school leadership certifications are pending.
