The Greater Amsterdam School District welcomes Mianna Magliocca as its new district-wide Family Advocate. Magliocca will be a central point of contact for parents and families with questions about district resources and services and support them in obtaining what they need.
Magliocca has lived in the area her whole life and has always had a passion for helping people.
“I’m excited to take on this new and important position for GASD,” Magliocca said. “I feel honored to be a part of a school district that understands the importance of parental involvement and community connections while enriching the lives of our future leaders.”
As Family Advocate, Magliocca will work to bridge the gap between school and home students and their families. She is eager to learn more from GASD parents/guardians regarding their child’s education, mental health needs and home lives.
“I plan to implement different opportunities for families to become more involved in their child’s education while helping everyone become more in tune with the resources available in our community,” she explained. “The advocate position blends the education field and my passion for helping others.”
Magliocca holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and an associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education. During her career she has worked as an educator for pre-school children and as an advocate for a non-profit organization that helps house and support homeless veterans.
