Section II Class A Football has recently announced their 2022 Fall All-Stars. Jhai Vellon (Sr, QB) was named Class A Player of the Year. For the season, Jhai was 137-198 with 2,295 passing yards, 22 TD’s, and a completion percentage of 69.20%. He ended the season with a Quarterback Rating of 133. He also rushed for 754 yards and 15 TD’s. Jhai also broke the single season passing (2,295yds) and career passing yards (3,631yds) school records. He totaled 5,112 total yards and 61 TD’s for his AHS career. Jhai was also selected to the North Senior All-Star Team.
Other Amsterdam Varsity Players receiving Class A Capital Division All League honors are:
- Ceasar Thompson (Sr): First Team Wide Receiver and elected to the Section II North Senior All-Star Team (Also broke the single season receiving record with 1,032 yards)
- Louie Gonzalez (Sr): First Team Wide Receiver. Selected to the Section II North Senior All-Star Team
- JaShean Vann (Sr): First Team Running Back. Selected to the Section II North Senior All-Star Team
- Naseir Reid (Jr): First Team Defensive Line
- Jackson Merritt (Sr): First Team Defensive End
- Jo’el Baker (Sr): First Team Inside Linebacker
- Dante Soto (Jr): Second Team Inside Linebacker
- Talon Hollingsworth (Jr): Second Team Outside Linebacker
The Albany Times Union recently released their 2022 Large School (AA & A) Football All-Stars. This year on offense, the following players received honors:
- Jhai Vellon (Sr): First Team Quarterback
- Ceasar Thompson (Sr): First Team Wide Receiver
- Jackson Merritt (Sr): Second Team Defensive End
- Naseir Reid (Jr): Second Team Defensive Tackle
- Talon Hollingsworth (Jr): Second Team Kick Returner
