Louie Gonzalez, his coach and family at his college letter of intent signing.

MARCH 25, 2023

Congratulations to Amsterdam High School student/athlete Louie Gonzalez who signed his national letter of intent Friday, March 24 to continue his football playing career at the collegiate level in the fall of 2023 while studying for his degree.

Gonzalez will be attending American International College in Springfield, MA where he will play Division 2 football on scholarship. He will be majoring in Exercise Science.

Gonzalez was a three-year varsity football letterman as a starting wide receiver. He was a player that opposing coaches had to modify their game plans for and will be remembered for his excellent route running and catching abilities. His “helmet catch” against Queensbury High School at Lynch Literacy Academy will go down as one of the most memorable catches in AHS football history.

Over the course of his playing career, Gonzalez had 70 receptions for 1,031 yards – an average of 14.7 yards per reception. He totaled 16 touchdowns and four, 2-point conversions. His longest reception was for 75 yards. One statistic that stood out for Gonzalez was the number of explosive plays (12 yards or longer) he made at 25. While playing defense as a safety and cornerback, Gonzalez recorded 54.5 total tackles with 49 being solo tackles.

Gonzalez earned numerous awards throughout his football career including being named team captain his junior and senior years. As a sophomore and junior, he was named Class A Capital Division 2nd team wide receiver. At the conclusion of his senior year, he was named Class A Capital Division 1st team wide receiver and was selected to the 2022 Section 2 North Senior All-Star Team.

Gonzalez’s accomplishments are due to his ongoing commitment to being the best student-athlete he could be both on the field and in the classroom.
