The Amsterdam High School Marching Rams are preparing for an exciting and historic performance this weekend. The band will participate in America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Celebration in Plymouth, Massachusetts, an event that celebrates over four centuries of American history.
While the Marching Rams will not appear in this year’s Schenectady County Holiday Parade, they are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to showcase their talents at the prestigious New England parade. This marks a return to Plymouth for the Rams, whose original plans to attend in 2020 were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Thanksgiving parade in Plymouth is known for its rich historical significance and unique blend of performances, including Drum and Bugle Corps, which have roots in military history. The Marching Rams’ participation in this event offers students a chance to experience a broader perspective on musical traditions and see high-level ensembles in action.
The band will perform Shakira’s “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” the official anthem of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The song’s vibrant energy and global theme align perfectly with this year’s parade theme, “Children of the World.” The performance will feature an engaging drum break and student choreography, adding a dynamic element to the routine.
In addition to the parade, students will explore historic landmarks in the Boston and Plymouth areas, enriching their understanding of American history and culture. The trip promises to be a memorable experience, blending musical competition with educational opportunities.
The Greater Amsterdam School District is proud of the Marching Rams for representing the community on such a significant stage and wishes them success in this weekend’s competition. Their hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm continue to make Amsterdam proud.
