The Rams Inclusion Squad has once again demonstrated the power of community, inclusion, and dedication at the 2024 Special Olympics Polar Plunge. For the second consecutive year, the team was recognized as the top fundraising school, earning the prestigious Cool School Plunger Award. With the support of the Greater Amsterdam School District (GASD) community, the squad raised an outstanding $20,530, surpassing last year’s total by over $5,000.
Under the leadership of Coach Jessica Verrigni, the Inclusion Squad brought together an impressive 73 plungers who enthusiastically braved the icy waters to support Special Olympics athletes. Coach Verrigni’s commitment to fostering a spirit of inclusion and service has inspired students, staff, and families alike, making this annual event a true highlight for the Rams.
The overwhelming generosity and participation of the GASD community played a pivotal role in this achievement. Their contributions will directly benefit Special Olympics programs, helping to provide opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities to participate in sports, develop skills, and build confidence.
This year’s event was made even more special by the participation of Carolyn Sculco, a graduated Inclusion Squad member, who returned to capture the day’s excitement through her photography. Her work perfectly encapsulates the joy and camaraderie that defined the Polar Plunge experience.
The Rams Inclusion Squad continues to exemplify the district’s core values of inclusivity, teamwork, and service. Their commitment to making a difference in the lives of others is a testament to the strength and spirit of the GASD community.
Congratulations to the Rams Inclusion Squad, Coach Verrigni, and everyone who supported this year’s Polar Plunge. Your collective efforts are a shining example of what can be achieved when a community comes together for a meaningful cause.
