The Lynch Literacy Academy (LLA) Student Council recently wrapped up a two-week Thanksgiving Food Drive, collecting an impressive total of nearly 500 donated items. This heartwarming initiative showcased the generosity and community spirit of LLA students and families, emphasizing the power of giving back during the holiday season.

Most of the donations were provided to Christopher Carpenter, who leads a Thanksgiving food distribution for families in the Greater Amsterdam School District (GASD) and the Amsterdam community. The remaining items were donated to the LLA Backpack Program, which helps ensure students have access to essential resources throughout the year.

On Tuesday, members of the LLA Student Council joined Mr. Carpenter at Barkley Elementary to help pack bags of food for distribution. These bags, filled with holiday essentials, will be delivered to families on Wednesday morning, just in time to make Thanksgiving a little brighter for those in need.

Superintendent Richard Ruberti commended the students and families for their efforts, stating, “This food drive is a shining example of how we can come together as a district to support our community. The generosity of our students and families reflects the values we strive to instill—compassion, teamwork, and the importance of giving back. I’m incredibly proud of everyone involved.”

Initiatives like this not only provide vital support to those in need but also foster a sense of togetherness and shared purpose. The LLA Student Council’s efforts remind us that small acts of kindness can have a significant impact, strengthening the bonds within our school and the broader community.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this year’s food drive. Your kindness and generosity have made a meaningful difference and ensured that many families will enjoy a warm and fulfilling Thanksgiving.
