Special Education Award

The Greater Amsterdam School District is proud to announce that Jessica Verrigni, Unified Coach and Physical Education Teacher, was recognized as the Special Olympics Unified Champion at the Special Olympics Unified Coaches Appreciation Night. This prestigious award is presented to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to fostering inclusive and supportive environments in schools, and Coach Verrigni’s dedication to her students and the district’s mission embodies this honor.

As a Unified Coach, Verrigni has worked tirelessly to bring together students with and without intellectual disabilities through sports and collaborative activities. Her leadership in the Unified Sports program has helped create a culture of acceptance and respect at GASD, empowering students to build meaningful connections and learn the value of teamwork and inclusion.

"Jessica’s work as a Unified Coach has had an incredible impact on our students and our school community,” said Superintendent Richard Ruberti. “Her dedication to creating opportunities for all students to feel valued and supported is inspiring. This award is a well-deserved recognition of her passion, commitment, and ability to make a difference.”

Through her efforts, the Unified Sports program continues to thrive at GASD, offering students the opportunity to grow as individuals and teammates both on and off the field. The district congratulates Coach Verrigni on this outstanding achievement and thanks her for her unwavering commitment to inclusion and excellence.
