Music Leaders

The Greater Amsterdam School District is proud to recognize its December Musicians of the Month! These talented students have demonstrated exceptional musical ability, dedication, and leadership across a variety of programs, from band and chorus to general music classes.

Warren Odendahl (AHS Band - French Horn): Warren, a senior, is a cornerstone of the AHS band program. As a 4-year member of the Marching Rams and this year’s mellophone section leader, he has shown remarkable dedication. Warren participates in the advanced concert band, jazz ensemble, and pit ensembles for AHS Drama Club musicals. A talented musician and Vice President of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, Warren exemplifies teamwork and leadership, often going above and beyond to assist with set-ups and equipment.

Victoria Forte (AHS Voice): Victoria, a junior, recently joined the Select Chorus and has already made a significant impact. She has a long-standing involvement in band, the majorettes, and the drama club. A natural leader in her section, Victoria’s professionalism and dedication are unmatched. From preparing choral uniforms to hemming concert dresses, she is an invaluable member of the music program.

Shirleyann Carrion-Ortiz (LLA Band 8/Jazz - Flute): Shirley is an 8th grader who consistently exceeds expectations. An accomplished flutist, she performs in both concert and jazz bands. This season, she extended her talents to the 7th-grade band to support the flute section. Shirley is a dedicated musician, always eager to help others and expand her skills by learning additional woodwind instruments.

Samantha Dutson (LLA Voice): Samantha, a 7th grader in Select Chorus, is a leader who inspires her peers with her focus and commitment. She suggested and helped prepare the group’s performance of Happy Xmas/War Is Over during holiday caroling, fostering meaningful discussions about the song’s themes. Samantha’s preparation and enthusiasm set a high standard in the program.

Malachi Taylor (LLA Trombone 6): Malachi, a 6th-grade trombonist, is a rising star in the LLA band program. His dedication is evident as he frequently attends extra rehearsals to perfect his concert pieces. Malachi’s willingness to help others and his drive to improve make him a valuable member of the band.

Enrique Sanchez (LLA General Music 6): Enrique approaches every class with enthusiasm and determination. He independently mastered multiple ukulele chords, playing songs with precision and dedication. His hard work and love for music shine in every project he undertakes.

Gabriel Asencio (Curie GM - Guitar): Gabe, a 4th grader, has shown incredible initiative in learning guitar. He has independently mastered several chords and consistently demonstrates a deep understanding of music notation. Gabe’s commitment and impressive progress highlight his bright future in music.

Katelyn Kenna (Tecler GM): Katelyn, a 5th grader, has been a standout this month, contributing to choir, flute in band, and the Orff Ensemble. She even stepped in to perform a solo instrumental part for the choir’s winter concert. Her dedication and leadership in the music program are remarkable.

Eriannys Campos (Tecler Band - Flute): Eriannys, a 5th-grade flutist, is a talented and hardworking musician who inspires her peers with her enthusiasm. She quickly learns challenging music and performed Carol of the Bells at the winter concert, spreading holiday cheer through caroling around the school.
