Students from Amsterdam High School recently visited Barkley Elementary to read to younger students, fostering a connection between grade levels and promoting literacy within the Greater Amsterdam School District (GASD).
The visit provided an opportunity for high school students to serve as role models while encouraging elementary students to develop a love for reading. The collaboration supports the district’s ongoing commitment to enhancing literacy and building a strong sense of community among its schools.
Superintendent Richard Ruberti highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating, “Opportunities like this strengthen the bond between our schools and demonstrate the positive impact our older students can have on younger learners. It’s inspiring to see our students working together to promote literacy and education.”
GASD remains committed to providing meaningful learning experiences for students across all grade levels.
