During Regents Week, members of the Amsterdam High School (AHS) band and their directors spent two full days working with Lynch Literacy Academy (LLA) band students. This collaboration provided younger students with an opportunity to learn from experienced high school musicians while gaining insight into future musical opportunities.

AHS band members performed marching music, cadences, and football game stand tunes for LLA students. They also participated in band rehearsals and lesson sessions, offering guidance on improving sound quality, practicing effectively, and developing musical skills. Additionally, they shared their experiences about transitioning to high school, balancing academics and extracurricular activities, and finding success as student musicians.

“These types of interactions allow our middle school students to see what is possible if they continue in band,” said Maria Pruckno, LLA’s seventh- and eighth-grade band director. “Hearing from high school musicians helps them understand the commitment and rewards of participating in music at the next level.”

These mentorship experiences help students build connections, strengthen the district’s music program, and foster a sense of continuity between middle and high school. The Greater Amsterdam School District appreciates the AHS band members and directors for dedicating their time during Regents Week to supporting and inspiring younger musicians.
