On Friday, Feb. 7, students from Amsterdam High School participated in the Future of Healthcare Workshop at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS). This event gathered approximately 140 high-achieving high school students from the Capital Region, all nominated by their respective schools for their accomplishments and interest in STEM careers.
The workshop commenced with a case study on malaria, after which students divided into groups led by ACPHS faculty to examine the issue from four disciplinary perspectives: biomedical sciences, clinical and health sciences, social and behavioral sciences, and pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences. The session concluded with a discussion where students presented their proposed solutions.
Amsterdam High School student Rizalino Reyes noted the interactive nature of the case study, stating, “That part was cool.”
Amsterdam High School Principal Mike Gennett emphasized the value of these opportunities, stating, “Providing students with hands-on experiences in real-world healthcare challenges helps them see the impact they can have in the field. We are proud to support their exploration of careers in medicine and science.”
The Greater Amsterdam School District acknowledges the efforts of ACPHS in organizing this workshop and commends the participating students for their engagement in exploring various healthcare disciplines.
