Amsterdam High School student Destiny Lopez was recently recognized with a Navy and Marine Corps Certificate of Commendation for her completion of a 30-by-30-inch painting featuring the Amsterdam High School Marine Corps JROTC emblem. The award was presented by First Sgt. Bautista and the JROTC program in acknowledgment of her dedication and artistic contribution.
In addition to Lopez’s recognition, a new sign has been created for the MCJROTC Marksmanship room, thanks to the efforts of Art Club advisor Jessica Lewandowski and her students. By engaging student artists in this project, the initiative provided an opportunity for creativity to enhance the JROTC space and strengthen the connection between the arts and leadership programs at the high school.
“Projects like these showcase the strong collaboration between our academic and extracurricular programs, providing students with meaningful opportunities to contribute to their school community in impactful ways,” said Superintendent Richard Ruberti.
The district recognizes and appreciates the dedication of its students and staff in fostering a learning environment that values both artistic expression and service.
